Summer Days, Drifting Away

Tuesday, September 7th, 2004 • 4 Comments on Summer Days, Drifting Away

Summer is over!  The kids go back to school tomorrow, we’re a week into September, Halloween candy is already in the stores… autumn has arrived, even if the calendar—and temperature—say otherwise.

I feel a sense of anticipation every September.  This is the real beginning of the year for me.  I love spring and enjoy summer and tolerate winter, but I thrive in autumn.  Comfort food, nesting season, holidays, cooking, shopping, writing, reading… new goals, new chances, new beginnings.

Autumn is here.  Happy me.

Fall is my favorite season, too. For all the same reasons.

It turned colder, that’s where it ends …
Then I told her, we’d still be friends …
Then we made our true love vow
Wonder who she’s doing now …

Summer dreams, ripped off my jeans
    bu-ut oh … those su-u-u-u-mmer niiiiiiiiiights….

Tell me more, tell me moooooooooooorrrrrreeeeee!!!

(Sorry, you have no idea how many times I’ve had to sing that song karaoke by request.) wink

I love autumn as well. I don’t thrive in hot weather, and I love crisp autumnal mornings (and my birthday is in September wink )

I can’t wait to bring out my wool sweaters.  I love walking on campus when the trees shed their leaves.  It’s such a freeing sight.  I envy trees and their ability to start anew each year- discard the baggage of the summer, reflect throughout the winter, grow anew in the spring.  Trees rock!
