I have just about finished my Christmas preparations, and though I haven’t done nearly as much as I have in past years, and haven’t even accomplished all the things I set out to do this week, I’m content.
My belatedly purchased Christmas tree is now decked with lights, but I had nothing to do with it. There may or may not be ornaments on it tomorrow, we shall see. I rather like the plain tree with multi-colored lights. It seems appropriately Charlie Brown-like.
My gifts are all bought, though there were a couple ideas I had to abandon for lack of time and/or money; the out-of-state gifts are all mailed, with the exception of Sheri’s. She should still receive hers before New Year’s, which isn’t so bad. I happen to like receiving gifts after Christmas—it’s a nice surprise.
The pantry and fridge are stocked for the big Christmas eve meal, which won’t be nearly as elaborate as in past years (despite what other people think), but should be tasty nonetheless. Dessert will be a minimal effort instead of the multi-day, dozen hour experience of past Christmases.
I have several gifts left to wrap, for the people closest to me. I have food preparations and some last minute cleaning to do. There are cards to be written, but those will wait until Monday. I will be busy tomorrow, but once dinner is on the table my work is done and all I have to do is relax and enjoy my four day weekend.
It is shaping up to be the pefect, peaceful, low-key Christmas.
