I have managed to opt out of most of the holiday craziness this year—much to my relief—but now it’s Christmas week and that means finishing the things I want to do this holiday season. Like buying gifts for people I love (okay, some of them I just like a lot). Like writing cards to people who have taken the time to send one to me. Like buying food for a lovely Christmas eve dinner (much as I joke about making pizza, or something equally un-Christmasy, it won’t happen). Then there are the things I don’t want to do but will because, well, I must
. Work. Pay the bills. Clean the house. Go to the post office and mail a dozen packages. You know the drill.
It’s funny how I can give up my need for Martha Stewart perfection this holiday season, but there are certain things that make Christmas Christmas for me. These things, these traditions I won’t sacrifice no matter how late I have to stay up to complete them, are a pleasure.
I just wish I had more time to do them.
