What’s the worst thing about being a writer, you ask? Besides rejection, which goes without saying, it’s trying to get paid for my writing. I’ve worked with some fabulous editors, but every once in awhile I have to nudge an editor to pay me. As the year draws to a close, I’ve been nudging a couple of editors pretty hard.
I am not talking large sums of money here, folks. I’m talking about what amounts to two weeks of Starbuck’s mochas or one nice lunch (excluding alcohol) or a few paperback books or a two or three rounds of drinks on me. It’s not a lot of money, but I
it and it annoys me to no end to have to go begging for something that is rightfully mine. I worked for it, I wrote something worth publishing (and even worth reprinting), and I want my money without sob stories or lame excuses, dammit.
