I leave for London in twelve days. Twelve days. It doesn’t seem that long since Rose and I were talking about signing up for a study abroad trip, but it was actually several months ago. Now it’s looming in twelve short days and I’m having nightmares about losing my passport and being at the airport with nothing packed. It’s going to be a fabulous trip and I’m looking forward to it—I just have to get my “to do” list pared down a bit before I board the plane. I’m realistic enough to accept that I won’t get everything done before I leave, but it would be nice to not have to hit the ground running when I get back.
Those who were around for my first trip to London in 2003 might recall (not-so-fondly) how I raved for months about that trip. There is something about London that stayed with me long after I came back to my side of the pond. I’m anxious to see if that feeling is still there—if the love affair will continue—and afraid it won’t be and I’ll be disappointed (but how likely is that? After all, it’s London!). This time around, I not only have London to look forward to but also a day trip to Dublin and another to Bath, Stonehenge and Salisbury (which, I assume, are all fairly close together—I’m a bit geographically challenged). Oh, and did I mention the theater? We’re going to several shows and a few tours, including one of the BBC studios. Yes, it’s going to be a wonderful trip.
In my current pre-vacation mentality, I’m absolutely loving those Expedia commercials. I will attempt not to over pack (Rose, pay attention), but I do have a fondness for those little travel-sized toiletries. The better to leave room for souvenirs, right? Any requests?
