Unlike previous years, I haven’t really been feeling the birthday vibe this year. Maybe I’m saving up for the big one next year, hmm?
In any case, I’m enjoying my little daily gifts from Shannon and Jae… and today’s made me smile. Shannon framed a picture that she drew of me (based on the picture from my blog header, actually). I like it a lot—not because it’s a picture of me but because I love having a piece of art made by a friend. Lacking any sort of artistic skills whatsoever, I can appreciate the work and energy that goes into drawing, painting, sculpting, etc. I can’t imagine giving away my only copy of a novel or story, so I’m very honored when someone gives me a one-of-a-kind creation (especially if the person is an artist or actually has artistic abilities, which Shannon does). It was a very nice surprise. I’ll have to post a picture…
Speaking of which, another birthday week surprise arrived today! After waiting weeks and weeks for my wayward camera battery and charger to be sent from the hotel in London, Jay went ahead and ordered a replacement. It’s not exactly a birthday gift, but I’ll consider it one because I
love my camera (which was, in fact, a Valentine’s Day gift) and I’ve been very annoyed that I haven’t been able to use it. Now I can! Happy Kris! I was already irritated with myself for forgetting the battery/charger at the hotel (I never
leave things in hotel rooms, I’m amazingly thorough… usually) and my frustration level was through the roof over not being able to get it back. I hate that Jay had to pay for a new one (the camera was only three weeks old!), but now I have it and I can use my camera again. Yay!
Jay also brought me flowers today… two bunches, in fact. One was a “Happy Birthday Week” bouquet, the other was a “Thank you for letting me buy a motorcycle” bouquet. The motorcycle is being delivered tomorrow. I love flowers, so I’ll take them any way I can get them. Please, if you see Jay on the road… get out of his way. I would rather not have to buy a “Sorry you broke your leg in that nasty motorcycle accident, I’m sorry I let you buy it” bouquet.
Oh, I also got my final grades this week (not much of a birthday gift, in this case). Humanities 694, the Capstone Class (aka: the all-consuming Lilith project): A-. Edgar Allan Poe and American Literary Culture: B+. Eh, not my best work, but I’m not complaining. What I
whining about is having to go back to school on Monday. I’m not ready! Sigh…
