Birthday Goodness, And More Surprises

Guess what came in the mail today, one day after I received a replacement battery and charger for my camera?  If you guessed the original battery and charger that I left in the hotel in London, you would be correct.  The package was postmarked March 22 and had apparently been damaged in transit.  It might seem weird to someone else that the replacement would arrive one day before the original, but I went through this just a few months ago, in fact.  Oh well.  A spare battery will come in handy, but I need to see if I can return the extra charger.

Today’s gifty from Shannon (and Jae, I feel compelled to add, though I’m not sure how much he’s had to do with the birtday week gifts) was a 2 disc set entitled “Kristina in the 80s.”  Ahh… the good old days, when I was young and bright-eyed and innocent.  Hmm.  Anyway.  It’s the perfect compliation of “my” music and I will enjoy every song, from A-Ha’s “Take On Me” (I know I’m either getting old or really tired, but I think I saw them in concert with Joanne?) to “One Thing Leads to Another” by The Fixx, whom I saw perform on the beach in Ft. Lauderdale.  Yes, those were the good old days when you could go to a concert for under $25.

Other birthday goodness today included lunch with Jay at my favorite local restaurant and my movie of choice, Akeelah and the Bee.  (Rose, you really should take Annie to see this one.)  I loved this film, even though Lawrence Fishburne sounded waaaaay too much like his Morpheus character in

The Matrix

trilogy.  KeKe Palmer is the very talented young actress who plays Akeelah and she really holds her own.  It’s a sweet, inspiring story that manages to be suspenseful even though you know how it’s going to end before you even walk in the theater.

Not a bad Birthday Friday.  Hopefully the weather will improve for the weekend, otherwise my birthday cookout on Sunday might be a little soggy.

I would have loved to have seen A-Ha with you but the only concert we saw together was Bruce Hornsby and the Range. And Prince…I think…wait, maybe I’m getting old.

  • Kristina says:

I woke up this morning and realized it Bruce Hornsby and not A-Ha (I saw them with Cheryl), because I keep all my concert tickets nd Bruce Hornsby is the only one I don’t have because I put it in your scrapbook!  Oh well, we’re both getting old because I think we saw someone else together, too, but it wasn’t Prince because I’ve never seen him.

  • Joanne says:

I checked the scrapbook hoping for another concert clue but found none. Just Bruce Hornsby- Friday, January 16th, 1987 8:00 PM, Sunrise Musical Theatre. Nineteen years ago. Wow. Towards the end of the book there is a self-portrait of you sitting on a road (Boulevard of Champions?) in a Bruce Hornsby t-shirt. For some reason the picture is printed backwards. Artistic license maybe?

  • Kristina says:

    You’re not kidding, wow.

Yes, it’s the Blvd. of Champions.  Is it B&W?  I vaguely remember the picture.  Not sure why it’s printed backwards.  Probably a mistake rather than anything artistic.  For some reason, I have a bunch of backwards pictures in my collection.  Hmm.

Did we go to a concert in Miami?  A festival?  I swear I only feel old when I try to remember things that happened 20 years ago!
