City Living is the Life For Me

Sheri left me a message this afternoon saying she was on her way to Julius Meinl, a fabulous coffee shop/cafe I fell in love with while I was in Chicago.  We spent several hours sitting outside (did I mention how incredible the weather was the entire time I was there?  I couldn’t believe it was August) talking and people watching, drinking coffee and eating yummy chocolate torte.  I liked the place so much, we went back for lunch (and more coffee) the day before I left for home.  Julius Meinl feels like Chicago to me.

I think the only other person who could truly appreciate the Julius Meinl experience is Jae, mostly because I’ve spent many a morning/afternoon drinking coffee and people watching with him.  Sadly, we don’t have any really good independent coffee shops here that also have outdoor seating.  Fairgrounds comes closest, I suppose, but it’s no Julius Meinl.  Yes, I’m a little obsessed.  Not to worry, though, I won’t be moving to Chicago any time soon.  No matter how much I love the city and their coffee and chocolate shops, I couldn’t survive the winter.  Unless Julius Meinl delivers…
