Feelin’ Lucky?

It’s Friday the 13th… in October, no less.  The only thing missing is a full moon.  Oh, and a black cat.  Sadly, I do not have a black cat.  I have a grey cat.  I have a brown cat.  I have a tortoise shell (brownish-blackish, but mostly brownish) cat.  I have a calico cat, the aforementioned Annabelle, whose insulin dosage has been increased.  We await further testing.  I do not have a black cat.  I have a blond dog.  I have a green parrot.  I have a brown gerbil and eleven grey and white finches.  I have several grey and black striped raccoons (or do they have me?).  I do not have a black cat.

Perhaps a black cat will find me.  That’s pretty much the only way I’ll be getting a black cat.  The inn is full, the joint is booked, it’s SRO, but sometimes I’ll make exceptions for a hard luck case.  In this case, the black cat had better be a black kitten as the other four cats have put all sixteen of their feet down and insisted on no more adult cats (including Grace, who was an adult when she found me).  Hmph.  Ungrateful brats.  I mean, cats.

I do not have a black cat.  If I were superstitious, I would be worried about a sad little black cat crossing my path sometime in the next twenty-two hours.  A sad little black cat that I couldn’t possibly refuse to take in.  A sad little black cat that would greatly upset the already off-balance balance of my current menagerie.

Good thing I’m not superstitious, hmm?  But just in case, perhaps I should stay inside today.

Funny you should mention that, I just happen to have chased a long haired, mostly black (I think, hard to tell from a distance) cat around the mall where I work, as it was clearly homeless and needed feeding. It evaded me, so I am bringing food to work to leave for it.
