For those of you who don’t know who this Sheri person is I keep talking about (since she doesn’t have a webpage or blog or any other online presence), she is my oldest, dearest friend. We met in Florida in July 1988 when I was managing a photo lab and she was the first employee I ever hired. I was 21, she was 17 and though we only lived in the same state for about a year and a half, the friendship has endured for over 18 years.
Sheri and I (and usually, but not always, Jay) have spent all but two Thanksgivings together since I got married and moved to Virginia (the first time) in 1990. No matter where each of us is living, she is always here for Thanksgiving. (Those two missed Thanksgivings involved family emergencies and she substituted Christmas for one of them.) I treasure this tradition because no matter what is going on in my life, I know I can count on Sheri being here for Thanksgiving. Oh, and I can count on her wanting a turkey sandwich on the Friday after Thanksgiving.
She sent me an e-mail yesterday to let me know she’s arriving on Friday night rather than Saturday night—a whole day early! She closed with this:
“I can’t believe it’s Thanksgiving time. My most favorite time of the year. Yay!!!!!!”
