The great thing about being a writer who sets my own hours is that I can nap without guilt. The bad thing about being an insomniac who naps during the day is that I’m even less inclined to sleep at night. Which is why, at 2:30 AM, I am awake. Hellooo… anyone out there? No, I didn’t think so.
I really need to go to sleep soon so I don’t sleep all day tomorrow (today) and everything is conducive to that very thing—it’s late, it’s quiet, it’s raining—except that my brain is buzzing thanks to an afternoon nap, Starbucks coffee (which was delivered—I didn’t even get out of the house today) and my usual insomnia (which I think should be called writer’s brain, except I’ve been told not all writers are insomniacs). Sigh…
It’s times like these where I’m torn between staying up until whenever my body finally decides to shut down or going to bed and making myself fall asleep out of sheer boredom. I realize many people have absolutely no idea what this feels like and, to be honest, it really doesn’t bother me all that much (especially since I don’t
to get up early tomorrow). Life is pretty good when my biggest complaint is a little nap-and-coffee insomnia. It’s just a peculiar thing sometimes to be awake when it seems like the rest of the world is asleep. Or, at least, my corner of it.
