Over the past few days I have been putting together my application package for an adjunct teaching position at the community college. It’s a nightmare to fill out such applications, which ask for your entire employment and education history. When you combine my non-traditional academic track with my non-traditional employment history and several military moves over the past seventeen years, it makes for a confusing resume. However, I’m just about finished with it and ready to pop it in the mail so I can move on with my life.
Teaching is one of those things people have always told me I should do and I have always resisted pursuing. I don’t know why. Stubborn, probably. When I was in high school, I didn’t want to be stereotyped as the girl most likely to be a teacher. When I was older, I didn’t feel smart enough to teach anyone anything. I don’t know that I’m smart enough now, but my credentials suggest I’m qualified. Plus, the geeky teacher label doesn’t bother me quite as much as it used to.
Anyone remember “Hot for Teacher?”
