Monday, October 1st, 2007 • No Comments on Catching Up So I Can Move Ahead
I haven’t had time to breathe, much less blog, lately. When you last saw me, I was getting ready for Jay to move to Rhode Island for six months, courtesy of the Navy, was job hunting after finishing my M.A. in Humanities in May, and had a ton of writing assignments coming up. Now, Jay is living the New England life of fog, rain and cold (okay, no cold yet, but it’s coming) and I’m (mostly) happily teaching College Composition online for the local community college while busily writing when I’m not grading essays. Unfortunately, the combination of Jay being gone, teaching online rather than in person and the fact that writing is a solitary pursuit makes for a lot of alone time for me. I’m not quite certifiable yet, but… stay tuned.
I couldn’t stay away from school for long, so in addition to the three classes I’m teaching, I’m also taking a Women’s Studies class with the intention of getting my certificate. I enjoy the class, the reading and the lack of pressure associated with working toward a degree. I have no doubt that at some point I will talk myself into the insanity that is getting a PhD (or another Masters), but for now I think I could be very content to take one class every semester for the rest of my life. Yes, I know, I’m insane (see, I told you to stay tuned).
On the writing front, I’m working on a novella I have to deliver in three weeks. This is a first for me. I’ve written novels and I’ve written short stories, but I’ve never written something in between. As its always the case when I’m working on a major project, my mind is racing in a dozen different directions. I tossed and turned last night plotting a strange, sad, beautiful story about death and love and… I don’t know. Something totally new for me. Who knows what it will amount to. I will make some notes and put it aside—for now. If it’s something I’m meant to write, I have no doubt I won’t be able to let it go for long.
In other writing news, Alana “interviewed” me for a series she’s doing about erotica writers on her blog. In the chaos of getting my website redesigned and online (which had
to do with my wonderful designer, Joelle!), I missed the initial post and then happily discovered it when my links were back up. Do stop by and read more about me. Alana asked some intriguing questions and I got to share one of my favorite scenes that I’ve written.
I haven’t yet gotten everything organized around here. There is just so much to
now that I’m up and running again and I will be working hard to provide the sparkly content to go with the sparkly design. It was a busy summer and fall is off to a crazy start, but I do have much to write about, muse over and share. Including pictures! Finally, I can indulge my photo-taking obsession.
It’s nice to be back.
