Jay and Sheri have been ferried to the airport (Jay last night, Sheri this morning). I have gotten a three-hour nap to make up for some of my lost sleep in the past week (hell, to make up for some of my lost sleep last night). I’m not exactly refreshed, but I no longer feel as if there are cotton balls where my brain used to be. The house is a wreck, there are clothes strewn across my bedroom from laundry-in-progress, there is a bare, naked Christmas tree in the living room and enough Thanksgiving leftovers to feed the neighborhood tonight, or me for a week. (Guess which one I’m going with.)
I have writing to do, essays to read, grade and return, writing exercises to read and credit, a book and journal to finish for Women’s Studies, doctor and vet appointments to schedule for the next couple of weeks, a car to get inspected before the end of the month (which is Friday), two syllabi to write in December—one from scratch for which I don’t yet have the book, a ton of e-mail and phone calls to return and a great desire to take a nap every day this week.
If I owe you one of the aforementioned e-mails or phone calls, I will be working on those in the next couple of days. Thanks to everyone who commented on Skin Deep. It is always satisfying to sell my work, but nothing puts a smile on my face like hearing someone say they like what I wrote.
I had a fabulous Thanksgiving and I hope you all did, too. Now it’s back to work. For a few weeks, anyway.
