I Heart Nigella

Monday, December 17th, 2007 • 3 Comments

I have been thumbing through Nigella Lawson cookbooks (I have three), contemplating what to make for Christmas Eve dinner.  I’m having a hard time of it, though.  Not because Nigella doesn’t have many fabulous recipes—she does—but because I get caught up in reading those recipes, even when it isn’t something I would ever eat.  Just reading this makes me drool:

Chocolate Raspberry Pavlova

You just cannot beat a pav in summer, and in particular this dark beauty. The crisp and chewy chocolate meringue base, rich in cocoa and beaded nuggets of chopped plain chocolate, provides a sombre, almost purple-brown layer beneath the fat whiteness of the cream and matt, glowering crimson raspberries on top: it is a killer combination.

I love cookbooks, but I love words even more… and Nigella (or her ghostwriter?) has a way with words.  It doesn’t hurt that she’s hotter than her pre-heated oven, either.  And did I mention her accentSwoon.

See why I’m having problems planning my Christmas Eve dinner menu?

I don’t know why you are…but i am too! And I have about ten besides us comeing Christmas Eve. I seem to be suffering from a major case of brain dead this year. It’s horrible. You are more likely to find me staring off into space with a confused look on my face than singing carols and wrapping gifts. I think I’m going with a nice lasagna. We are ham/turkey/roast-ed to death around here. (p.s. no trouble finding desserts when I look through my cookbooks. One main, one side, one appetizer and like, three hundred sweets on my list smile that’s okay. right?) Good luck!

Sommer, we must be psychic twins.  I’m leaning toward lasagna, too.  A nice Italian Christmas (I’m not Italian, but who cares?)  With LOTS of desserts. smile

It’s terrible.  I read a lot of cookbooks, but almost always resort to gnawing on a block of cheese.
