Making More of 2008

I have never been a big fan of New Year’s Eve, but I usually enjoy New Year’s Day. It is the beginning of a new year, a clean slate, a time to re-evaluate the past and make plans for the future. It’s also (usually) a peaceful day. I slept in, swapped my datebook and calendars to 2008 and made Hoppin’ John for good luck. I feel like I will need it in 2008.
I have already made my resolutions for this year—but I keep coming back to the idea that, more than any one specific thing, I simply want more in 2008. More writing, more traveling, more reading, more creating, more teaching, more laughing… just more. I want to accomplish and experience more than I did in 2007. The big stuff, the little stuff—more stuff. I don’t simply mean more work and more activities—though those are included—I also want more nights of good sleep, more days of peaceful relaxation, and more moments of pure contentment, too.
I want more of all the good things—including more black-eyed peas!
My Grandma used to put a lucky penny in her Hoppin John! We wish you both a terrific New Year.
