My Life At the Moment, In a List

I desperately need to be writing.  Instead, a short list of some of the stuff going on with me right now—and floating around in my brain:

Sheri is on her way to the airport in Chicago!

She’ll be here in five hours

!  She will be here tomorrow around noon because she gave up her seat to a sailor who needed to get to Norfolk! (Hence the desperate need to write.)

—At the moment, Jay is being tossed around in the ocean, but he will be home tomorrow morning!  (He’s been gone for two weeks.)

—It’s always weird to go from being by myself to having a full house.  And, yes, I realize having Jay and Sheri here does not exactly constitute a “full house.”  If you knew me, though, you’d understand.

—I told Sheri to bring her computer so we can write together at Starbucks.  (Jay will probably appreciate the quiet in the house.)

—A woman came up to me at Starbucks earlier and said she sees me here so often, she feels like she knows me.  She has even had conversations about me, speculating about what I write.  If only she knew…

—I really feel the need to get some sort of business card to alleviate the awkwardness of the question, “What do you write?”  I like the Moo CardsAlison sent me some of her Mini Moo cards and they’re awesome.

—I have an almost 24 pound turkey in the freezer.  I really must remember to relocate it to the refrigerator soon to allow for plenty of time to defrost.

—Thanksgiving is in six days!  It’ll be the same configuration as last year, I think.

Bruce Springsteen and the E Street Band have a new album coming out January 27!  Working on a Dream sounds like my life.  Can’t wait for it to come out!

—Being almost finished with his first semester of graduate school (and certain to get A’s in both of his classes) Nick said he’s going to read something by Jane Austen.  I said I would believe it when I see it.  Oh, but I do love me some Jane Austen, though.

—I’ve had some good mail days lately.  I’ve gotten contracts and checks and gifts, oh my!  Alison sent me a beautiful coin and bauble necklace for taking third place in her Sexy contest and Sommer sent me lovely, velvety mittens, just because!  My first pair of mittens ever!

Bedding Down: A Collection of Winter Erotica hits the shelves in a matter of days!  I’m very excited about my first erotic romance novella.  My editor, Rachel Kramer Bussel, has already received her copies, so hopefully mine will be here soon!

—Speaking of Rachel, I’m quoted in her article, How to Know If He’s the One at The Frisky

—I did receive my copy of the New York City Sexbloggers 2009 Calendar yesterday!  It’s absolutely gorgeous and I’m proud to call some of the pin-ups my (blogger, Twitter, Facebook) friends!

—I found out earlier this week that SMITH Magazine is including my six-word memoir on love in their forthcoming Six-Word Memoirs on Love and Heartbreak by Writers Famous and Obscure!  What fun!

—My six-word memoir on love is this:  “My marital advice?  Marry an orphan.”  (I also submitted: “True Love. Then he starts snoring.” which is the one I thought they accepted.  Oh well…)

—I’m putting on my dusty book reviewer hat again soon.  Two books I’ll be reviewing are Starbucked by Taylor Clark (courtesy of @littlebrown on Twitter—I love Twitter!) and Pam Rosenthal’s The Edge of Impropriety.  I’ll post my review of Starbucked here; The Edge of Impropriety review will be posted at the Erotica Readers and Writers Association.

—My Starbucks Gold Card is getting plenty of use.  The best part is, I got mine for free!  I suppose I’ll have to actually pay the $25 fee next year, but it’s totally worth it.

—It looks like I might be teaching three sections of English Composition in the fall.  I have mixed feelings about that, but the money will be nice.

—It snowed today.  Snowed in southeastern Virginia in November.  I think this adds support to my insistence that we put up the Christmas tree this weekend rather than waiting until after Thanksgiving.  I am ready for the holidays!!

—I need to make more baby hats, but I also want to make a scarf similar to Mary Anne’s.  And maybe try my hand at Amigurumi.  Crocheted animals!  Cute!

There’s more… there’s always more… but I think that’s a fair sampling of what I’ve been up to in the past week.
