Post-Thanksgiving Update

Sorry for the silence.  Sheri came into town on Monday and it’s been all-girl time since then.  My favorite time of year!  Here is just a quick rundown of what’s been going on with me:

—First of all, I’m still pregnant.  38 weeks, 2 days.  Feel great and had a ton of energy at the beginning of the week.  Had my 38 week appointment Wednesday, which sapped a lot of my energy.  Why?  Read on…
—My doctor tried to schedule me for an induction next Monday (11/30) and I refused.  (Baby is measuring big—around 8 pounds 4 ounces—and my doctor is a bit paranoid.)
—I spent a couple of hours hooked up to a fetal monitor and having other tests run at the hospital on Wednesday, because my blood pressure was slightly elevated.  (See above about paranoid doctor.)
—I’m fine, baby is fine.
—I have another ultrasound next Thursday (12/3) and I am scheduled for an induction at 6 AM on Friday (12/4).  I am not at all happy about being induced, so we’ll see what happens between now and then.
—Because of the induction date, Jay will be home from Dubai on Wednesday!  That is the good news.  The bad news is that he only gets 14 days of leave and will be returning to Dubai on December 16.
—In non-baby news, Fairy Tale Lust was mentioned in a recent issue of Publishers Weekly, but I don’t which issue!  Waiting for my publisher to send me a copy…
—Thanksgiving was a 2-woman affair with Sheri doing most of the work because I was exhausted from the previous day’s stress.  But it was lovely and peaceful and delicious.
—I’m behind on a bunch of writing I need to do, but hoping to catch up this weekend.

I think that’s all for now.  Just enjoying the Sheri time, getting a few last minute pre-baby things done and trying to relax.  I’m hoping baby will come on his own sometime after Jay arrives.  Keep your fingers crossed for me!

Wishing you the very best, Kristina.

    Oh please.

My first baby was 8 12. I know women who’ve delivered ten pounders and not torn. Pff,don’t listen to that 1950s ‘your pelvis is too small for this baby’ throwback paranoia.

Get some acupuncture instead if they put you in a situation where you have to induce. It works far more naturally, no stress/massive contractions that mean you have to get the epidural to manage them while they squish the baby.

Stick to your guns and request scans, unless they can show you there issomething specific wrong. Hospital birth, it sucks! This is not the time to be stressed!

Read some Ina May Gaskin and let her reassure you smile

    Best of luck,

    Jo x
