ABookofArt?

Thursday,December07,2006

In an effort to get a head start on my annual resolution to “learn something new,” I’m contemplating taking an art class.  This one, offered at the Hermitage Foundation Museum in Norfolk, appeals to me on so many different levels:

Altered Books (8 weeks)
Instructed by Angela Hudson
January 19 – March 9
Fridays, 1:00 – 3:00 p.m.
Recycle a book into a creative work of art! In this innovative class, manipulate a book or books by rebinding, cutting, tearing, painting, drawing, adding collage, gold-leafing, stamping, printing, adorning, and personalizing with poetry or portraiture. Check out the International Society of Altered Book Artists for inspiration and write your own work of art.

It’s a little pricey to basically do what we’re taught as children not to do, but it sounds like fun.  Plus, how cool is it that they have their own international society?
