AListforMonday

Monday,June09,2008

I know, I know, I made a list just a few days ago.  It’s too hot to think in paragraphs, so here is another list.

--100 degrees yesterday.  On June 8.  I know a large chunk of the country is experiencing this heat wave, but it’s still spring!

--I saw Hillary’s speech after the fact and thought it was gracious and unifying.  I’m sad she’s not the Democratic candidate.  I really don’t understand the vitriol that has been directed at her.  Why is she so much worse than any other politician or presidential candidate?  I’ve read comments about her that make her sound like the devil incarnate.  Why?  And to those who said Hillary was not the best representative of a female presidential candidate, I would ask: Who would have been better?  Where is she?

--I like Obama, though I’m worried he’s not up to the task of being the President of the United States.  A good orator does not automatically translate into a good political leader.  I’m afraid this country is so starved for someone who looks and sounds presidential that we’ve built Obama up to be something he isn’t ready to be.

--John McCain as president scares the hell out of me.

--I am loving Susan Breen’s The Fiction Class.

--Sunday Brunch at the Jefferson Hotel was lovely.  Many, many Belgian waffles were eaten.  Oh my.

--I’m still unsure of Plurk.  It just doesn’t roll off the tongue like Twitter.  I’m holding out hope that Twitter gets through this awkward stage of growth so I can tweet, tweet, tweet.  (I think I just don’t like the word plurk.)

--My four year old PowerBook is officially a dinosaur.  The Apple Store no longer carries the battery for it, so I have to order it online.  I am determined to make my Mac last five years (at least), so I will order the battery online and keep it humming for another year.

--It cost a measly $100 to get my Miata purring again-- and that included an oil change!  That means I’ve put just $200 into repairs in the first six months of 2008.  That is not bad for a sixteen year old car.

--Yes, it has occurred to me that I might hang onto things a bit too long.  So what?

--As always happens on Monday, I’m having a difficult time getting back in the writing groove.  I just counted, and I have eight different writing files open at the moment.  I was juggling a bunch of things on Saturday and got about an hour of writing in before brunch yesterday and now I’m back to… what do I work on now??

--For the first time in about two years, I’m running low on Lush.  Horrors!
