Every year there are a couple of “best” erotica anthologies that are compilations of stories published in the previous year.  I was privileged to be a part of one of those this past year, in fact.  It’s been interesting putting together my submission packages for this year’s “best” anthologies.  For one thing, I get the satisfaction of submitting my work without having to actually write something new.  Always a bonus for us lazy writers.  I’m also submitting stories that have already been published, so a rejection at this point is a mild sting instead of a crushing blow.  Plus, it’s nice to go over my publishing credits from the past year and feel a sense of accomplishment.  Not all of my stories get submitted to these “best” anthologies, of course.  Some stories, while publishable and even well-written, aren’t unusual or unique enough to warrant reprinting.  No, only my best gets submitted to the best.

The interesting thing is, it’s not difficult to decide which stories to submit to “best” anthologies.  There are always two or three stories that stand out in my mind as the best of my work.  Stories that, even while I was writing them, moved me, excited me, motivated me to finish them quickly so I could send them out into the world.  These are the stories I’ll be mailing tomorrow, stories that are representative of my best work in 2005.

Here’s hoping a couple of my best stories find homes in the “best” anthologies.  Here’s hoping my best for 2006 is even better.
