Vosges%20bunny.jpg

I can eat chocolate again!

My first bite of chocolate in nearly seven weeks was a Vosges Haut-Chocolat exotic truffle.  Sheri introduced me to Vosges chocolates when I was in Chicago last summer and Jay ordered a box of truffles and one of the little guys here (a Barcelona bunny made with hickory smoked almonds, grey sea salt and milk chocolate) and tucked them in my Easter basket.  Yummy surprise!

Vosges is very creative with their chocolate, though some creations are a little too exotic for me (such as their Rooster truffle which contains Italian taleggio cheese, organic walnuts, Tahitian vanilla beans and bittersweet dark chocolate).  I haven’t been able to bring myself to take a bite out of the bunny.  Yet.

My chocolate Easter gifties also included the less exotic, but still delicious, Reese’s peanut butter eggs, as well as Cadbury eggs and bunnies.  Exotic chocolate is a special treat, but Reese’s and Cadbury are comfort chocolate!

Ahh… chocolate.... have I said enough about it yet?  I have missed my daily taste of chocolate, but going without has made me appreciate other sweets and desserts-- I have a newfound respect for vanilla ice cream, for instance.  Still, there is nothing quite as rich or satisfying as chocolate, in whatever form it takes.

Next year for Lent, I’m going to give up something a little less necessary to my health and emotional well-being.  Like sleep.
