Patrick and I have ventured out to Starbucks today.  I was pacing the house this morning, anxious to get out into the sunshine and warm(er) weather while I can (it’s supposed to turn nasty this weekend) and also anxious to hear news of the birth of Shannon and Jae’s baby.  The baby news came a little while ago-- a healthy-- and big!-- baby girl whose name may or may not be Sydney Reese.

While Patrick naps and dreams those baby dreams that make him smile and sometimes giggle, I contemplate writing.  I started a story a few days ago-- the first original story I’ve written in at least four months.  I’ve been making do with finishing stories started months and years ago or revising stories previously written.  Even my story for Fairy Tale Lust was a story I had written some time ago and rewrote for the anthology.

The bulk of my sales in the past year have been reprints (thank god for reprints!).  The fact that I was able to come up with a new story idea at all was pretty impressive, I thought. I will be doubly impressed if I actually finish it sometime in the next month.

My brain-- at least the creative part-- has pretty much been mush since those two lines popped up on the pregnancy test.  But I’m feeling the urge to write again, even if my creativity still seems a bit sluggish.  I miss the words, the characters, watching the scene unfold on the screen.  I miss the rush of having completed a story, the sense of accomplishment when I’ve submitted a story, the even bigger rush when I sell a story.

It’s a new year and I have a new baby.  Now I’m ready for the new stories…
