Want to read an amazing horror story?  Then you must check out the very gifted and prolific Shanna Germain’s Trill, a recent contest winner at Anthology Builder.

Shanna’s writing has impressed and inspired me for years and I’m delighted to include her poignant fairy tale “Her Hair is a Net, Woven” in Fairy Tale Lust.  I try to keep up with her blog and her travels, but I’ve been a bit busy lately and missed the link to “Trill” until a couple of days ago.  I’ve re-read it four or five times now.  As I told Shanna, it’s one of the best stories I’ve read this year-- perhaps the best.

What makes a good horror story is often what’s not written rather than what is.  The darkness of the imagination can often conjure greater horrors than anything that can be read on the page.  Shanna is very, very good at creating a scene and leaving it to the reader to fill in the gruesome details.  Such is the case with “Trill.” It gives me shivers just to think about it.  Yes, it’s that good.  But don’t take my word for it.  Go read Trill for yourself and see what I mean

One warning: “Trill” is a very dark retelling of “The Pied Piper” and deals with adult themes.

Oh, oh, geez, Kristina! Thank you thank you. You made me blush… like, a lot. And you made my little writer heart go pitter-pat smile

I’m really, really grateful to the judges at Anthology Builder too—it’s a seriously creepy story, and while many of them said something along the lines of “a bit too creepy,” they still gave me really high marks and said nice things. It’s a story I never thought would find a home, so I’m pretty damn delighted.

Thank you! s.

My pleasure, Shanna. It’s an amazing story… I’m so glad it found a home, too!
