TGIF? NotWhenYou’reaWriter

Thursday,January04,2007

Spring semester starts next week, with classes Tuesday through Thursday for me.  Three classes, three days (two classes on Wednesday, the third class on Tuesday and Thursday).  I’m not happy about being on campus three days a week; the commute is a pain (especially in afternoon traffic) and my poor car really doesn’t need the extra miles.  However, come May 5th, I will be finished with my Master’s degree.  This one, at least.

With my free days dwindling away, there are some things I would like to do-- and some things I have to do-- before Tuesday:

I’ve been wanting to see the Century of Great Photography From the Virginian-Pilot exhibition at the Chrysler Museum since it opened in October and here it is the last week before it closes and I still haven’t gone.  I think that will be on the schedule for Saturday.

I would like to register for the Altered Books class at the Hermitage Foundation Museum that I mentioned last month-- if it hasn’t filled up already.  I see on their web page that I have to sign up by tomorrow, so I suppose I’ll call in the morning and find out if there is a spot for me.  I’m hesitant to sign up for another class given my academic workload this semester, but… it would be fun.

I need to buy the books for my classes, or at least the books for my American Literature class, since I have reading to do before class starts.  That chore might get added to Saturday’s list.

I also need to take down the Christmas tree and pack away the Christmas decorations (as well as the untouched Christmas and Hanukkah cards.  Oh well, there’s always next year).  I took my sweet time putting up the tree this year (and last year, for that matter), but now I’m loath to take it down.  I like the pretty lights.  I’m easily entertained that way.

I need to write, write, write.  I have numerous deadlines split between January 15th and January 31st and I took on a work-for-hire assigment tonight that I would like to turn in by January 18th.  The only good thing about having a Tuesday-Thursday one-hour class is that I will probably (hopefully) spend a few hours after class sitting in the coffee shop and writing while I wait for rush hour traffic to die down.  We’ll see how that plan goes.

So, I’ll be busy over the next few days.  It’s a good busy, though.
