Hi, I’m Kristina Wright, the insomniac writer whose mind is always working, even late into the night…. I’m a full-time writer, as well as a perpetual college student and community college adjunct. (Some would also say I’m a smartass philosophic maternal know-it-all, but they can say it on their own blogs.) I live in Virginia with my husband Jay and our menagerie of pets, including a dog, four cats, a conure, finches and fish. Oh, and there are some raccoons I feed occasionally… okay, nightly. They are not pets.
Really. Just because I seriously contemplated using the cats’ flea and tick medicine on them does not make them pets.
I grew up in south Florida (and the distinction is important only to those of us who know the difference between south and the rest of Florida) and escaped just as quickly as I possibly could. In the seventeen years I’ve been married, I have lived in Charleston, South Carolina; Newport, Rhode Island (briefly); and Virginia—twice—courtesy of the Navy (Jay is the sailor, I’m far too resistant to authority).
I completed my M.A. in Humanities in May 2007, but I’m still in college, working on a certificate in Women’s Studies. There is a part of me that longs for a Ph.D., but I’m not sure if I have the discipline necessary to do the time. We’ll see. However, I do consider myself an academic of sorts (“independent scholar” is a term that I like) and my interests cover much of the humanities, specifically literature, popular culture and women’s studies. My hobbies include reading (obviously), photography, blogging, cooking, going to the movies, rescuing stray animals, learning new things and traveling as often as my budget allows.
Blogging is something that fulfills the exhibitionist in me and also gives me an opportunity to connect with other writers, editors, bloggers and strangers. I don’t talk about everything that is going on in my life, but I try to hit the high (and sometimes low) points. I don’t post my writing here (with the exception of excerpts or links to other places) because I’m a professional writer and I like to get paid for the privilege of someone reading my work. I do, however, talk about all of the things that interest me, including the writing process. I like to think there’s something for everyone here—but if you decide otherwise, please click through to some of the fabulous blogs I read.
About My Writing
I started writing fiction in the first grade and I haven’t stopped since. Along the way, I’ve written everything from greeting cards to book reviews, but fiction remains my passion. I have been writing more or less full-time for about twelve years (though I have had a series of “normal” jobs, gone to college a couple of times and taken much needed breaks along the way). I am labeled a “romance writer” and an “erotica writer” (both of which are occasionally and almost always snidely reduced to “smut writer”) in various circles. While I happily embrace both labels (especially if there is a contract attached), I am both and I am more.
My first book was published by
Silhouette Intimate Moments and was a
Golden Heart Winner in Romantic Suspense. For the past few years, the bulk of my writing has been erotic fiction and my short stories have been published in over fifty anthologies. Currently, I’m working on a variety of projects including an erotic romance novella, a chick lit midlife crisis novel, literary fiction and creative nonfiction, several erotica stories and a nebulous literary novel, which is finally beginning to take shape.
About This Site
This beautiful website is the work of a fabulous website designer,
Joelle Reeder of
Moxie Design Studios. After blogging for four years, I decided it was time to get serious, get professional and get help. Joelle took my ideas and created exactly what I wanted in a website—something fun, friendly and feminine (and somewhat pink). Joelle, along with her partner
Kathy Scoleri at Moxie Design Studios, recently authored her first book,
The IT Girl’s Guide to Blogging With Moxie. I think Joelle did an amazing job on my website and I cannot recommend her—or her new book—highly enough.
Thanks for visiting! I hope you’ll return often and drop me once in awhile. Like most writers, I have a narcissistic streak and I love fan mail.
